Customer Requirements
The custom design and build of an Orangery cum Gymnasium to complement an outstanding individually designed executive home. The location of the extension provides a link between the main house and office located in the roof space above the property’s detached double garage. The result has been to provide the family with a new, large multi-functional ground floor room as well as easy access to the spacious office. This can now be used more easily without having to leave the house. A major consideration in designing the new room was to maximise the use of natural light without compromising its thermal insulation.
Project Summary
The roof was designed using Pilkington Optitherm, argon gas filled, sealed glazing units producing a glass roof with a very high insulation coefficient. The outer surface of these were coated with a unique self-cleaning film that reduces the build-up of dirt. Weather sensitive electronic roof-lights and specialist remote control, silent running fan units suspended from the structural main support beam ensure a constant temperature and humidity is maintained for the planting area. The very high standard of finish was completed by laying a polished oak plank floor to complete the overall light, yet warm and welcoming atmosphere. By working very closely with our clients we have been able to investigate and specify new materials to provide them with an individual and stunning additional room.
